The fate of Japan's Electricity System Reform
The electricity supply system in Japan is about to change. This change will influence energy users and consumers as well as utility business. My discussion topics will include the past problems, key drivers and major goals of system change. I will also focus on view points for the change and Japan-unique challenges, as well as management reform of Tokyo Electric Power Company(TEPCO).
Mr. Yamada graduated from Keio University – Faculty of Economics. He has worked at Bank of America Corporation(Tokyo branch), Salomon Brothers Asia Ltd. and Morgan Stanley(Tokyo branch). In 1995, Mr. Yamada established an independent energy consulting company named Sprint Capital Japan Ltd., followed by establishing Sprint Capital NW Inc. in the United States in 2004. In May 2012 he published book titled “Privatization of Electric Power in Japan – is this the key to electric system reform?” Mr. Yamada has also taken part as a Visiting Researcher at Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. and the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University. Presently, he contributes to media, presents at seminars, supports energy related companies, as well as conduct research activities in both Japan and overseas.
