This festival features the Yosakoi Naruko dance and about 100 teams from all over the Japan gather to Omotesando area to perform every year. The Yosakoi Festival was born in 1954 by the Kouchi Chamber of Commerce to build up the local area during the post-war depression. In the beginning, it was done by 21 teams and 750 participants, but it has grew up to over 10,000 participants.
This year it is expected that 102 teams will participate in this event. The super Yosakoi is now established as the biggest Yosakoi event.
Since 2001, a local shopping arcade promotion association, Harajuku Omotesando Keyaki-Kai, organizes a festival dedicated to Meiji-Jingu, which protects the tradition of the Yosakoi Festival in Kouchi Prefecture.
