Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer amongst Japanese women, and almost 1 in every 9 women will be diagnosed at some point in their lifetime. Breast cancer can be easily detected through screening. If the cancer is detected early on by regular check-ups and self-checks and is treated immediately, the survival rate is about 90%. It’s also recommended to have a check-up every two years, even if you don’t have any symptoms.
Servcorp Japan, a company in which 90% of its employees are women, has been a sponsor of RFTC Japan for many years, conducting annual charity events across all 30 locations in Japan. The General Manager at Servcorp Japan, Olga Vlietstra, who serves on the RFTC Japan board, has said:
"This year Servcorp is proud to have raised over 2.8 million yen in donations for the NPO RFTC Japan, which leads breast cancer awareness activities in Japan. These donations are raised through charity events hosted at Servcorp’s 30 locations across Japan. Over the span of several months each location raised funds through various initiatives, including including holding Matsuri events, selling original handcrafts made by our Team, preparing and selling special summer drinks, craft coffees, home-cooked Curries, hot dogs, etc.. We are deeply grateful for the warm support from our community members and clients throughout Japan. The donations will be used to support the Foundations initiatives towards the J-TOP program (Japan Team Oncology Program). J-TOP organizes training for multidisciplinary breast cancer care teams. Selected candidates will receive funding to attend major international conferences for cancer research. The Servcorp team is honoured to support J-TOP's vital mission of fostering cancer specialists in Japan.”
Servcorp will continue to support RFTC Japan activities to spread knowledge of breast cancer and the importance of screenings.
