The History of YOSHINOYA
Starting out as a part-time employee, Chairman Abe quickly made it to the top of the company and was crowned “Mr. Gyudon”. During his 22 years as CEO, he has overcome obstacles such as the company's bankruptcy and the “BSE disaster,” and turned these obstructions into strengths and opportunities. He will speak about his life as a CEO and YOSHINOYA's management theory, while looking back over the history of YOSHINOYA.
Mr. Shuji Abe (Yoshinoya Holdings, Chairman)
Mr. Shuji Abe is the Chairman of Yoshinoya Holdings who is also well known as “Mr. Gyudon.” He started his career working part-time at YOSHINOYA aspiring to be a professional musician. Soon after, he officially joined Yoshinoya Holdings as a full-time employee. He was quickly promoted to Director of Kyushu, then to Executive Managing Director, before taking up the post of CEO and President at the young age of 42. Overcoming many obstacles during his tenure, he led the company for 22 years. In May of 2014, Mr. Abe stepped down from his position as CEO, and became Chairman of Yoshinoya Holdings. That same year, on August 31st, he also resigned from the post of President of YOSHINOYA. Mr. Abe is currently the commissioner of Japan Food Service Association, after leaving his position as chairman in May of this year.
